Basic Saxophone Care Tips

Keep the neck tenon clean in order to ensure an easy fit into the saxophone body. Insert the tenon plug when the saxophone is not in use in order to prevent damage to the octave key mechanism.

Saxophone Care

Lubricate the neck cork to ensure an easy fitment of the mouthpiece.

Never expose the saxophone to excessive temperatures (i.e. avaoid leaving the saxophone in the car during a hot day).

The inside of the saxophone should be cleaned after use, including the mouthpiece, using a soft cloth pull-through. Chewing gum and sugary items are harmful to the pads, and should be avoided before playing the saxophone. Lip gloss should also be removed before playing the saxophone.

Key oil should be applied periodically, in small quantities, to the pivot points. Take care that no oil comes into contact with the pads.

Use cleaning paper to clean the pads. Insert the paper between the pad and the tone hole, press down lightly and carefully pull the paper out.

Never store music books inside the saxophone case as this may cause damage to the keys.

Never run water through the saxophone, or immerse the instrument in water.

Never use any materials or oils that are not specifically designed for saxophone maintenance.
